Cutting tools, standard & special
Marshall Drill’s have been supplying rotary cutting tools to manufacturing companies for 30 years, with particular experience in the aero-structures manufacturing and aircraft maintenance fields.
As the industry has evolved, with an ever increasing use of carbon fibre and composite materials, Marshall Drills years of experience in sourcing and supplying tooling has meant our customers can count on us for the optimum solution.
Carbon Composite Cutting Solutions
The rapid development in the use of Carbon Composite Cutting tools has meant a special emphasis has been placed upon the machining activities such as Drilling, Reaming, Drill-Reaming, Milling, Routing, Countersinking, Trepanning, Slitting.
Although each operation has its own degree of difficulty, we are able to offer cutting solutions using P.C.D., Carbide and Plated Diamond cutting tools.
The development of Carbon Fibre Composites and their introduction into the aircraft and related industries, where weight and strength of materials are essential requirements, has demanded a reappraisal of the conventional cutting tool. New geometry is essential to avoid delamination in composite materials. Special emphasis has been placed upon the machining activities in drilling, reaming, countersinking, routing/milling and slitting. The rivet is the main fastening method for component assemblies, therefore it is important that good quality holes are produced, because of the use of different material laminates, i.e. Carbon.

Tool Care
Carbon Fibre is a material that can be used in a multitude of ways and in a wide range of industries. One of the main problems when machining is the combined abrasiveness of the material. We therefore need to address the problem of servicing or re-grinding of cutters. We should try and arrange for all cutters to be checked for size, wear and edge condition and re-ground if necessary before they are re-issued out of the Tool Stores for production.
General tools & factory consumables
To complement our extensive range of tooling Marshall Drills also stocks a large range of factory consumables, that can be supplied directly to our clients. Our range of products is designed to meet all the requirements of our engineering clients and includes hand tools, air tools, safety clothing, packaging, abrasive pads ands cleaning products. We also stock:
- HAND TOOLS & MEASURING INSTRUMENTS
- JANITORIAL & PACKAGINGS MATERIALS
- ABRASIVE & FINISHING PRODUCTS
Regrind & Tool Reconditioning
Marshal Drills believe in giving our customers a full service and as much support as possible. To this end we provide a fully comprehensive regrind and recondition service, which will put a used cutting tool back to an "as new" condition. The combination of excellent service and expert Applications Engineers, means that customers of our reconditioning service can rely on us to provide the right tool at the right price at the right time.
We undertake far more the simple re-grinding tools, we call this ‘tool re-work’. Each tool undertakes the following processes:-
- Upon receipt the tools are chemically cleaned and sorted
- Visual inspection to confirm the tool can be re-worked
- Tools are re-ground or modified to customer specific requirements or drawing specifications
- Tools are treated to preserve, then re-packed and clearly labeled, to ensure full identification
The primary driving force of our re-work service is ‘quality’ first… The goal is to supply re-worked tools which perform equally if not better than when supplied new, in a consistent and professional manner.
